How to split a large model for a smaller 3D printer

A model that exceeds build volume does not have to become a compromise. Split it where the seam can be hidden, reinforced, or turned into a useful design feature. Plan the joint at the CAD stage whenever possible rather than cutting an already finished mesh without reference features.

Add alignment pins, sockets, dovetails, screws, or captive hardware according to the material and expected load. Each connection needs clearance tested on your printer, and it should be accessible for glue, fastening, or future repair.

Print a small section of the joint first. It is faster to revise a connector than to reprint a full multi-part object after discovering an interference, weak seam, or inconvenient assembly order.
